Giethoorn in January

January 2016, we went to visit a friend in Groningen. He took us to Giethoorn, a village in the Netherlands that is known as the “Venice of the North”. Well, I guess the cloudy, cold and sometimes raining weather made the village… less lively.

It takes about 2 hours drive from Groningen to reach Giethoorn

There were only several tourists when I was there. Well, none in this picture

I am sure it is beautiful and lively during summer. My friend said that we can rent a small boat and cruise the canal. During summer, it is so full that people keep bumping their boats towards one and another

I wondered if anyone actually live in the area since it was sooo quite

Oh I must also add, it was raining, cloudy and foggy too.

There were not a lot of restaurants opened when we came. I forgot the name but it was nice, the food was good and really love the decor
